Graduation! 卒業式！

Happy Graduation!

卒業おめでとう！

All that was left after finishing the last day of class... was the graduation! All of my students received a diploma for completing the English classes during this voyage. 

Only 5 months I ago, I was receiving my University degree diploma so it felt weird to be on the other side, distributing diplomas to students. I was proud of myself for completing this task of teaching on a cruiseboat, but more proud of my students for coming to class everyday and really doing their best, conquering their fears and leaving the boat with more English than they have ever known before. 

最後の授業を終えると残るは…卒業式のみ！生徒たち全員、この船旅の英語の授業を修了したことを証明するディプロマをもらった。

つい５ヶ月前、私は大学のディプロマを受け取ったことを思い出すと、ここで反対側にいて生徒にディプロマを渡しているのは不思議な感覚だった。船で教えるという挑戦と課題を達成した自分を誇らしく思えたけれど、それより誇りに思えたのは生徒たち：毎日ちゃんと授業にきてくれて全力をつくしてくれて、英語に対しての恐怖を乗り越え、船を下りようとする今は本当にたくさんの英語を知っている。

Then it was party time! 

The dress code was "something you can't wear back home in Japan". Most people wore traditional clothing that they had purchased at the ports- many beautiful Aozais, Saris, etc etc. 

その夜は卒業パーティ！

ドレスコードは『日本で着れない／着にくい服』。多くの人たちは、港で買った伝統的な服を着ていたー美しいアオザイとか、サリーとか…

We had a game where we passed around a funny hat and people had to thank that person or say something nice. 

変な帽子をまわして、かぶっている人に対して感謝の気持ちや、優しい言葉をかけるというゲームもあった。もちろん英語で！

then came some dancing time! 

その後は、ダンスタイム！

and singing time! 

歌も！

The teachers made a song to the students and performed it as well :-)
