Granitos De Paz in Colombia

"Second country that I visit in Latin America, I loved the experience I had in Colombia. I was on a tour that visited Fundacion Granitos De Paz: Grains of Peace. This organization runs a preschool in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Cartagena, provides land for these families to grow and sell vegetables, and helps people build their own houses.
I met the most adorable children, saw the poorest neighborhoods, learned about the situation in Colombia, and interacted with middle school children.

I had the opportunity to talk a lot with Norma, a mizuan who had once been a guerilla warrior and now is a women's right activist. We started talking about why Colombia despite the poverty, is a place where people are considered the happiest.
She cleverly mentioned that it is perhaps because of poverty, that people choose to live happily. Because they cannot see tomorrow, they live today to the fullest. This positive attitude may seem wonderful at first sight, but it is also the case it in turn causes poverty in return- when people live to the fullest today, they don't think too much about tomorrow or chooses to enjoy the money or resources on the day.
Hmmm. The key to a happy life is not an easy question.

After the tour, I went out to the old city, ciudad antigua, with Bekah and met Belinda and Tiev. The area was beautiful and magical with colonial colorful buildings with balconies with plants.

Still, what I learned today was that it is still important to choose to be happy- seeing the elderly singing their hearts out, drumming like crazy, and dancing with us, that was the message- to enjoy the moment you have with the people you are with, to the fullest. Your life needs to be full of life. You can't control the environment you're born into, but you choose how to live your life.

And also to provide the best for the children, as they are the future.
This positivity must live on and be passed on somehow- look at those children's eyes, full of hope!

Wishing for a even happier healthier Colombia.
